5 Great Freediving Masks

What makes a good freediving mask?
The most important thing to consider when purchasing a freediving mask is the volume of the mask. Finding a good low volume mask means that you will be using less air to equalise your mask as you descend. Other things to consider when buying a freediving mask is comfort and fit, hydrodynamics and durability.

It is very hard to design a low volume single lens mask so all of our top masks are 2 window designed. I personally wouldn’t recommend a single lens mask for freediving.

Our favourite freediving mask is the Cressi Calibro. It has a very low volume and a Fog Stop, to channel the hot air you release from your nose while equalising away from lenses to reduce fogging. It has an ultra soft matte silicone that is moulded separately from the frame to ensure a flexible fit. The mask is designed so there is a smooth line from the top of the skirt to the top of the frame, giving it excellent hydrodynamics! The Calibro is an excellent choice at a competitive price point!

Cressi Mask Calibro Black
The Calibro Mask is the perfect companion for freediving or spearfishing, specially designed for total freedom and comfort, as well a boasting a minimal internal volume, compact shape and excellent hydrodynamics.

My only negative comment is that potentially people with larger noses might find the Fog Stop uncomfortable, I didn’t have the issue but I could see it happening.

Coming in second is the Cressi Metis Blue Hunter. This gets a higher place on this list for its excellent value for money and reliability. Still very low volume and comfortable the Blue Hunter is a great choice for a beginner freediver! Another benefit is it does already come with a snorkel!

Cressi Mask & Snorkel Set - Metis/Free Blue Hunter
The perfect companion for the adventurous spearfisher, freediver, scuba diver or snorkeler, the blue hunter camo of the Metis Mask and Snorkel Set lets you seamlessly blend into the ocean environment.

The Paragon is definitely one of the more expensive masks on the market but it deserves a mention here as it it a fabulous mask and is designed for your safety in mind. The 2 window design is low volume, the silicone is ultra soft with a fantastically versatile fit, but the real selling point of this mask is the lenses. The patented treatments of the lenses give incredible clarity, colour and light transmission under the water while also protecting you from harmful sunlight rays.

The Paragon is an incredible professionals mask filled to the brim with amazing innovations toggle you the ultimate diving experience.

The Ceos and the Intega are very similar in terms of benefits and price points, the Ceos closes out just on top as it has a slightly lower volume, but it is designed for a slightly narrower face than the Intega. They both have the low volume 2 windowed design, the ultra soft silicone and great hydrodynamics. The Intega will Gove you slightly more field of vision as it has larger lenses.

The Ceos is a compact, low volume diving mask with ultra comfortable silicone
The Intega is a slightly bigger mask with a wider field of view.
